Knowing Me Dr. Zeus, Knowing You Blog Reader - AHA
I’ll play your game AKA.
But before you click that little white triangle, just listen to this. Wasn’t that a nice, but ultimately forgettable slice of 70s soul? Now commence the white triangle clickage. Oh sweet Jay-sus, look what Jay Dilla has done to that mid-tempo Motown knock. According to my iPod he’s just Frankensteined the most played song on my playlist. This is only surprising when I drop the fact that it has held that position for well over a year now. I’ve tapped the left side of the circle (lots of geometry coming at you tonight) over and over trying to unlock all it subtle treasures. Is it the falsetto sample? The perfect string drop? The fact that for the first 20 or so listens I thought for sure it was an unreleased Jackson 5 track?
Dilla was a master and I’m just a student. And the first lesson of power is the student can never outshine the master. So shine on JayDee.
